（舒尔曼的炮弹首次攻入城中，而只有少数残余的士兵拼命抵抗。手无寸铁的平民只有四处奔逃。媚兰在思嘉的帮助下产下孩子。思嘉派碧西去找瑞德．准备回家。） Rhett: whoah, whoah. 瑞德：噢，噢。 Scarlett: rhett, is that you, rhett? 思嘉：瑞德，是你吗，瑞德？ Prissy: he's here, miss scarlett, he's here! 碧西：他在这，思嘉小姐，他在这I Scarlett: oh, rhett, i knew you'd come. 思嘉：澳，瑞德，我知道你会来。 
瑞德：晚上好，今天好天气，碧西说你正想…· Scarlett: if you make any jokes now, i'll kill you! 思嘉：如果现在你还开玩笑，我就杀了你！ Rhett: don't tell me you're frightened. 瑞德：别告诉我你吓坏了。 Scarlett: i'm scared to death, and if you had the sense of a goat you'd be scared, too! Don't you know that they've been fighting all day around tara? Do you think you can parade right through the yankee army with a sick woman, a baby and simply minded darkie? Or do you intend leaving them behind. 瑞德：德园？你不知道北方入整天在那里打仗吗？你以为你能带着一个病妇、一个婴儿、一个愚蠢的黑鬼从北方佬军队中大摇大摆开过去吗？你是不是想把他们都抛下呀？ Scarlett: they're going with me and i'm going home and you can't stop me! 思嘉：他们和我一块，我要回家，你不能阻止我！ 
瑞德：难道你不知道在野外长途跋涉对威尔克斯太太很危险吗？ Scarlett: i want my mother! I want to go home to tara! 思嘉：我要我妈妈2我想回家，回德园。 Rhett: tara's probably been burned to the ground. The woods are full of ^stragglers from both armies, the least thing they'll do is take the horse away from you. And even though it isn't much of an animal, i did have a lot of trouble stealing it. 瑞德：那儿恐怕已经烧成平地了。树林里全是两军的残兵游勇。他们会把你的马拖走，一匹马不算什么，不过我把它份到手也费了不少麻烦。 Scarlett: i'm going home if i have to walk every step of the way! 思嘉：碧西，你在干什么？ Prissy: i'm packing, miss scarlett. 碧西：收拾东西，思嘉小姐。 Scarlett: well, stop it. Come and get the baby 思：别收拾了，快下来看看孩子。 Prissy: yes. 碧西：是。 Scarlett: melanie, melanie... 思嘉：媚兰，媚兰…… 
瑞德：威尔克斯太太，我们要带你去德园。 Melanie: tara... 媚兰：德园。 Scarlett: it's the only way, melanie. 思嘉：我们只能这样，媚兰。 Melanie: no... 媚兰：不…… Scarlett: sherman will bum the house over our heads if we stay. It's all right, melanie, it's all right. 思嘉：他们会把我们这房子烧掉，没事的，媚兰，会没事的。 
媚兰：噢，噢，孩子…… Rhett: have you the strength to put your arms around my neck? 瑞德：你有没有力气用手抱住我的脖子？ Melanie: i think so. 媚兰：我想可以。 Rhett: never mind. 瑞德：不要紧。 Melanie: oh,ashley..charles! 媚兰：唤，希礼……查尔斯！ 
瑞德：什么？她想要什么？ Scarlett: ashley's picture and charles' sword, she wants us to bring them. 思嘉：希礼的照片，查尔斯的剑。她想让我们带上。 Rhett: get them. 瑞德：那就带上。 (they venture all the way. At last they are pretty near tara. Rhett suddenly stops.) （他们一路颠簸。最终来到德园附近。瑞德忽然停下车来。） Scarlett: why did you stop? 思嘉：为什么停下？ 
瑞德：转过去就是德园。我让马喘口气。威尔克斯太太…… Prissy: miss melanie done fainted way back. Captain butler. 碧西：媚兰小姐晕过去了，巴特勒上尉。 Rhett: she's probably better off. She couldn't stand the pain if she were conscious. Scarlett, are you still determined to do this crazy thing? 瑞德：那样对她更好。不然她受不了那痛。恩惠，你还要坚持做这傻事？ Scaelett: oh, yes, yes, i know we can get through it, i'm sure we can. 思嘉：是，是的。我们能过去，我相信。 Rhett: not we, my dear, you. I'm leaving you here. 瑞德：不是我们，亲爱的，是你。我要走了。 
思嘉：你要干什么？瑞德，你要去哪？ Rhett: i'm going, my dear, to join the army. 瑞德：我要走了，亲爱的，我要去参军。 Scarlett: oh, you're joking. I could kill you for scaring me so. 思：你在开玩笑吧。你这么吓我，我要杀了你。 Rhett: i'm very serious, scarlett. I'm going to join up with our brave lads in gray. 瑞德：我是认真的，思嘉，我要参加我们穿灰色军装、勇敢的联合军队。 Scarlett: but they're running away. 思嘉：他们正在逃跑呢I 
瑞德：不，他们会回来，再打一仗．如果我说的不错的话。而且到时候，我会在里面，虽然退了点，但总好过…… Scarlett: rhett, you must be joking. 思嘉：瑞德，你一定是在开玩笑。 Rhett: selfish to the end, aren't you? Thinking of your own precious hide with never a thought for the noble cause. 瑞德：你从头到尾都这么自私，是吗？永远只顾你自己，从不为我们神圣的事业着想。 Scarlett: rhett, how could you do this to me, and why should you go now that, after it's all over and i need you, why? Why? 思嘉：瑞德，你怎么能这样对我．为什么在我最需要你时候离开我，为什么？为什么？ Rhett: why? Maybe it's because i've always had a weakness for lost causes, once they're really lost. Or maybe, maybe i'm ashamed of myself. Who knows? 瑞德：为什么？也许是因为我一直偏爱失败的事业．真正失败的事业。或许，是我为自己感到羞耻，谁知道呢？ 
思嘉：你会因为把我孤单无助地留在这儿而羞耻至死！ Rhett: you, helpless? Heaven help the yankees if they capture you. Now climb down here. I want to say goodbye. 瑞德：你？无助？捉到你的北佬才无助呢。来，下来，告个别。 Scarlett: no. 思嘉：不。 Rhett: climb down. 瑞德：下来。 Scarlett: oh rhett, please don't go. You can't leave me, please, i'll never forgive you. 思嘉：瑞德，请不要走。你不能离开我，我不会原谅你。

思嘉：放开我！ Rhett: here's a soldier of the south that loves you, scarlett. Wants to feel your arms around him, wants to carry the memory of your kisses into battle with him. Never mind about loving me. You're a woman who's sending a soldier to his death with a beautiful memory. 瑞：其他的不重要。我知道你的意思了。如果我真的为国捐躯，我想你会受到良心责备的。再见，思嘉。 (Scarlett drives on.) （思嘉继续驱车赶路。） Scarlett: melanie, melanie, we're home! We're at tara! Hurry, move brute! 思嘉：媚兰，媚兰。我们到家了。到德园了。快，快，笨畜生。 Prissy: oh, miss scarlett, he's dead! 碧西：噢，思嘉小姐，马死了。 Scarlett: i can't see the house, is it there? I can't see the house, have they burned it? It's all right, it's all right, they haven't burned it. It's still there! 思嘉：我看不见房子还在不在，我看不见，他们把它给烧了？它还好，还在，没被烧掉，它还在！ 
（残存的德园将面对战争失败带来的困苦和饥荒。） Scarlett: mother! Mother, i'm home! Mother, i'm home! Mother let me in, it's me, scarlett. Oh, paw, i'm home, i'm home... I'm home. 思嘉：妈妈2妈妈，我回来了，我回来了！妈妈，让我进去。是我，思嘉。爸，我回来了。回来了……我回来了。 Mr. O'hara: careful, careful scarlett... 奥哈拉：小。心点，小。心，思嘉。 Scarlett: mammie, mammy, i'm home. 思嘉：奶妈，奶妈，我回来了。 Mammie: oh, honey child... 奶妈：噢，我亲爱的孩子。 
思嘉：奶妈，我，我…··妈妈呢？ Mammie: why...miss sue ellen, miss carreen, they were sick with the typhoid. They had it bad, but they's doing all right now. Just weak like little ^kittens. 奶妈：唤，苏·爱伦小姐和考琳小姐得了霍乱。她们病得很厉害。不过现在好多了，只是还很虚弱。 Scarlett: but, where's mother? 思嘉：可是，妈妈呢？ Mammie: well, miss ellen, she went down to nurse that emmy Sladdly, that white trash. And she took down with it, too. Then last night, she... 奶妈：爱伦小姐，她去看护那个艾米·斯莱迪，那个白人废物，她也染上了，昨晚她…… 
思嘉：妈妈，妈，妈-…· (Scarlett walks into her mother's room faintly. There, in dark and quietness, lies mrs. O'hara. She's dead.) （思嘉迷迷糊糊走进母亲的卧室。奥哈拉太太躺在黑暗的寂静中，她已经死了。） Mammyie: miss scarlett honey... 奶妈：思嘉小姐，亲爱的…… Servant: if there's anything i can do, miss scarlett... 男佣：有什么我可以做的，思嘉小姐？ Scarlett: what did you do with miss melanie? 思嘉：你们怎么安置媚兰小姐？ 
奶妈：别为媚兰担心，孩子。我把她和孩子都服侍上床了。 Scarlett: you better put that cow i brought into the barn, paul. 思嘉：保罗，你最好帮我把带来的牛牵到牛栏里。 Servant: there ain't no barn no more, miss scarlett. The yankees done burned it to firewood. 男佣：牛栏没有了，思嘉小姐。北佬当柴烧掉了。 Mammie: they used the house for their headquarters miss scarlett. 奶妈：思嘉小姐，他们把我们这儿当成总部。 Servant: they camped all around the place. 男佣：他们就在这周围扎营。 
思嘉：北佬在德国？ Mammie: yes'm. And they stole almost everything they didn't burn. All the clothes, and all the rugs, and even miss ellen's rosaries. 奶妈：是的，偷不走的，他们就烧了。衣服、地毯，还有爱伦小姐的珠宝。 Scarlett: i'm starving, paul. Get me something to eat. 思嘉：保罗，我饿了，给我弄点吃的。 Mammie: there ain't nothing to eat honey. They took it all. 奶妈：没有吃的了，他们全带走了。 Scarlett: all the chickens, everything? 思嘉：所有的鸡……所有的东西？ 
保罗：第一天，他们先是大吃，然后吃不了就放在马鞍上带走。 Scarlett: don't tell me any more about what they did. 思嘉：别再讲他们做了什么了。 (Scarlett goes into the room, finding her father in solitude.) （思嘉走过父亲房问，看到孤独中的父亲。） Scarlett: what's this , paw? Whisky? 思嘉：这是什么，爸爸？威士忌？ Mr. O'hara: yes daughter. Katie scarlett, that's enough. Your not knowing spirits, you'll make yourself '''tipsy. 奥哈拉：是的，女儿。思嘉，够了，你不会喝，会醉的。 
思嘉：我希望喝醉了，我想醉。爸爸，这是什么文件？ Mr. O'hara: bonds. They're all we've saved. All we have left. Bonds. 奥哈拉：债券。这是我们所保留下的一切。我们所剩的一切，债券。 Scarlett: but what kind of bonds, paw? 思嘉：什么债券，爸爸？ Mr. O'hara: why, confederate bonds of course, darling. 奥哈拉：当然是联合政府的债券，亲爱的。 Scarlett: confederate bonds. What good are they to anybody? 思嘉：联合政府的债券。它们还有什么用？ 
奥哈拉：我不准你这么说话，凯蒂·思嘉。 Scarlett: oh, paw, what are we going to do with no money and, ...and nothing to eat? 思嘉：噢，爸，没有钱，没吃的。我们该怎么办？ Mr. O'hara: we must ask your mother. That's it. We must ask mrs. O'hara. 奥哈拉：我们要问问你妈妈，就这么办。我们要问一问奥哈拉太太。 Scarlett: ask mother? 思嘉：问妈妈？ Mr. O'hara: yes. Mrs. O'hara will know what's to be done. Now don't be bothering me. Go out for a ride. I'm busy. 奥哈拉：是的，奥哈拉太太会知道该怎么办。不要再领我了，出去骑马吧，我忙着呢。 
思嘉：啊，爸爸，再不要担心了。上帝会给我们希望，你不用担心了。 (Scarlett leaves the room, closing the door behind her.) （思嘉离开房间，反身关上门。） Mammie: miss scarlettt? What are we going to do with nothing to feed them sick folks and that child? 奶妈：思嘉小姐，没东西给病人和孩子吃怎么办？ Scarlett: i don't know mammy. I don't know. 思嘉：我不知道，奶妈，我不知道。 Mammie: we ain't got nothing but radishes in the garden. 奶妈：园子里什么也没有，只有红萝卜。 
碧西：思嘉小姐，苏·爱伦小姐和考琳小姐吵着要擦身。 Scarlett: where are the other servants mammie? 思嘉：其它佣人去哪了，奶妈？ Mammie: miss scarlett, there's only just me and paul left. The others moved off during the war and ran away. 奶妈：思嘉，现在这儿只有我和保罗了。其他人在战争中走的走，跑的跑了。 Prissy: i can't take care of that baby and sick folks too. I've only got two hands. 碧西：我不能同时照顾病人和孩子，我只有两只手。 Servant: who's going to milk that cow, miss scarlett?We's house workers. 男佣：谁去挤牛奶，思嘉小姐？我们都只是家务佣人。 
（思嘉已精疲力尽，饥肠漉漉她来到空旷的田野，挖出剩下的红萝卜，狼吞虎咽。） Scarlett: as god as my witness....as god as my witness they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, i'll never be hungry again. No, nor any of my folk. If i have to lie, steal, cheat, or kill, as god as my witness, i'll never be hungry again. 思嘉：让上帝做见证，上帝做见证。我是不会屈服的，我要度过这难关。战争结束后，我再也不要挨饿了。不要，我的家人也不要。即使让我去撒谎，去偷，去骗，去杀人，上帝作证，我也不要再挨饿。
