Five years down the road, you'll thank yourself. If you need anything, just let me know. B: 忍耐吧! 五年后, 你就会感谢你自己。如果你需要什么的, 尽管告诉我。 "down the road" 和 "down the line" 都是指「某一段时间」以后的意思, 用法也相同。 "hang in there" 是「撑下去吧!」的意思。比如有朋友对目前的工作状况没有突破, 心情很郁卒, 你也可以用这个词语。 47. drag one's feet 对某事拖延 A: Shouldn't you guys have finished this project two weeks ago? B: It's Niles. I don't know why he's dragging his feet like this. B: 是 Niles 啦! 不知道他怎么这么会拖。 "drag" 是「拖拉」的意思, "drag one's feet" (原意: 拖着脚)就有「拖延不完成」的意思。 48. down the drain 付之一炬 
A: 我听说 Lyle 昨天晚上在 Las Vegas 输掉了二千美元。 B: I know. I was there when he got so out of hand and poured all his money down the drain. B: 我知道。当他完全失去控制, 把(他)所有的钱都浪费光的时候我(也)在场。 "get out of hand" 就是"get out of control", 是「失去控制」的意思。 
是「排水管」的意思。所以"down the drain" (原意: 冲到排水管里)就引申有「付之一炬」的意思。这个词组并不一定用在金钱方面。好象有人因为某个事件而使他的努力都白费了, 就可以说 "All his best efforts seemed to go down the drain."。 49. in a snap 马上 A: Oh, no. It's going to take all night to fix this stupid computer, isn't it? How am I going to turn in my homework tomorrow morning? A: 噢! 糟了! 修这个蠢计算机是不是要花整个晚上呢? 我明天早上要怎么交功课呢? B: Not with a genius like me. I can get this done in a snap. 嗯! 这个天才绝对不是我, 我是那种计算机有问题只会叫救命的人。"snap" 除了动词的「折断」的动作外, 还有像姆指与食指一起, 「ㄆㄧㄚ!」一声的那个动作的意思。常配合其它的字来形容「极短的时间」或「很容易的事」。好象"It's as easy as a snap."(某事很容易)或"It's as quick as a snap."(某事很快)等. 50. spill the beans 说出秘密 A: I heard that you and Philip got engaged. A: 我听说你和 Philip 订婚了。 
B: 什么? 那本来应该是个秘密。是谁说出去的? "be engaged" 是「订婚」的意思。 例句中的这个"spill"有「洒」的意思。至于为什么「洒豆子」是说「说出秘密」呢? 我不太清楚, 我想我来问问看喔! 如果有朋友知道的话, 也很欢迎跟我们分享喔。
