（西雅图，萨姆请来克拉丽斯临时照着乔纳，而自己即将赴约去见维多利亚。出发前地显得有些紧张。） Sam: ok, clarice. I'm get to be back either by midnight, or 8:30 if disaster strikes. (jonah points to the farthest northwest point.) Right. Where is baltimore? That's right there! (points to the eastern seaboard.) Look! 1, 2, 3, 4, there's like 26 states between here and there. Now that's a sign! (sam lets the map rolls up.) I'm out of here. Good bye! Good night! I love you! (door slams shut. A second later he opens it again.) 维多利亚：我好希望但以为你不会。 Derek: excuse me, mr. Baldwin? 德里克：对不起您是鲍德温先生吗？ Sam: yes? 萨姆：是的。 Derek: there's a phone call for you. 德里克：有电话找您。 Sam (to victoria): excuse me. (walks to the desk and says to the waiter) thank you. (picks up the phone) hello? 萨姆（对维多利亚）：失陪。（走到台前，对侍者）谢谢. （拿起电话）喂？ 
乔纳：爸，我们情人节去纽约好吗？ Sam: what? 萨姆：什么？ Jonah: annie reed from baltimore wants to meet us at the top of the empire state building on valentine's day. 乔纳：巴尔的摩的安妮里德约我们情人节那天在帝国大厦顶楼见。 Sam: jonah? 萨姆：乔纳？ Jonah: what? 乔纳：什么？

萨姆（对侍者）：请来一杯不加冰的伏待加。 Waiter: yes sir. 侍者：好的，先生。 (upstais, the private detective whom annie hired is secretly taking photoes of sam's every action.) （餐厅楼上，安妮雇佣的私家侦探正拍下萨姆的一举一动。） (the next week, sam and jonah are waiting for victoria at a market. Now she wants the fireplace ^rebricked. 萨姆：这己经是她第五次重漆了。我们永远完不了工。现在她又想用砖重铺一遍壁炉。 Victoria: oh, i know her pretty well. I could give her a call. 维多利亚：噢！我跟她很熟。我可以给她打个电话。 Sam: no, i've got it solved. 维多利亚（大笑）：噢，太好笑了！你真风趣 Sam: if she wants something done, she goes through this whole song and dance about how, "oh i don't know, i'm stupid, you tell me, you know better than i. But couldn't we just ^flip the whole house around so that everything that was on one side is now on the other and everything that was in the back is now in the front? And could the whole front of the house open up on one big hinge, that way i can just get in with a garage door op.enier?" ljust say, yeah, yeah we can do that. 萨姆：没错，十点钟，该睡了。 Jonah: good night. 乔纳：晚安。 (jonah walks upstais.) （乔纳上楼。） Sam: well, hey hey hey. Don't you want to thank victoria for this delicious dinner? 萨姆：嘿嘿嘿，你不谢谢维多利亚做的丰盛的晚餐吗？ Jonah: thanks for dinner. I never saw anybody cook potatoes that way. 乔纳：谢谢你的晚餐。我从没见过有人这样煮土豆。 
维多利亚：我很高兴你喜欢。晚安，乔纳。 Sam: yeah, we don't see a lot of potatoes around here. We're rice men. 萨姆：没错，我们这儿很少吃土豆，我们吃饭。 (later that night, jonah sneaks downstairs to spy on his dad and victoria as they stand on the deck and talk. He telephones the broadcasting station. Hearing this, becky makes a call at once to annie, waking she and walter up. In the darkness, annie hits walter's face when she stretches for the telephone.) （夜深了，乔纳溜下楼偷偷看着正在甲板上倾谈的萨姆和维多利亚。他拨通了电台的电话。贝琪在收音机中听到后，立刻打电话给安妮，将她和沃尔特吵醒。黑暗中；安妮伸手接电话时不小心打到沃尔特的脸。） Walter: oh! Oh! 贝琪：打开收音机。 Annie: what? 安妮：什么？ Becky: the kid is on. You've got me listening to this garbage. Go, turn it on. 贝琪：那个小孩子又上节目了。是你害得我听这该死的节目。去吧，打开收音机。 Walter: who is it? 沃尔特：谁打来的？ Annie: it's becky. She, she's having trouble with rick again. I'll go downstairs. (to becky) i'll go downstairs, becky, and call you back. I'm sorry walter. Are you bleeding? 安妮：贝琪。她，她利里克又闹别担了。我得下楼。（贝琪）我先到楼下，贝琪，我待会儿再打给你。对不起，沃尔特你流血了吗？

She brought three bags of groceries like she was staying here for a year. 乔纳：她来做晚餐，她带来三大包菜，像要在这儿待一年似的。 Marsha: jonah, jonah, it's good that your father's dating. It's just hard on you. It's something that you think that you want, but then when it actually happens, it scares you. 玛莎：乔纳，乔纳，你父亲约会是件好事。这对你而言是有些难以接受。这是你所希望的，但事惰真的发生时却又吓坏了你。

玛莎：乔纳，乔纳？ Walter: miss scarlet in the broom closet with the radio. 沃尔特：赫思佳小姐，拿着收音机躲在清洁柜里。 Annie: walter, you scared me. Don't ever do that again. 安妮：沃尔特，你吓死我了；下次别这样做了。 (the scene flashes back to jonah's home.) （画面闪回到乔纳家。） Jonah: i thought i saw a black widow spider! 乔纳：我想我看到了一只黑寡妇蜘蛛！ 
萨姆：你把我吓个半死！你把维多利亚吓个半死！ Jonah: it was right over there. 乔纳：它刚才就在那儿。 Sam: well the next time you think you see a black widow spider, i want you to say, "dad, excuse me, but i believe a poisonous insect is in the house," and i will calmly come and take care of it. 沃尔特：这也太荒谬了。 Annie: i know, i know walter. It doesn't make any sense at all.
